Commercially grown blueberries came to Bacon County in the early 1970’s when some of the local farmers, with the help of Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College and the University of Georgia Extension office, began experimenting with various blueberry varieties. Since that time, the number of farmers and the numbers of acres under cultivation increased substantially. July is National Blueberry Month! Celebrate this exciting month with a handful of delicious Georgia blueberries. If any fruit deserved its own month for celebrating it is these "little blues".  The blueberry is Georgia’s number one fruit crop and has a high economic and nutritional value for our state.
